The night I invented 3D printing

Call him Charlie, Charles, Chuck, whatever you want. It's all okay with him.

Beaming a warm smile from beneath his push-broom mustache, the softly spoken 74-year-old doesn't strike you as a pioneering innovator -- the man responsible for a breakthrough that's now driving forward the world of manufacturing.

But Chuck Hull -- "in this kind of environment, it's usually 'Chuck'," he says, as he sits down with CNN in Frankfurt, Germany -- is executive vice president and chief technology officer of 3D systems, a company built on his creation: the 3D printer.

In 1983, Hull was working for a small business that made tough coatings for tables using ultraviolet lamps. When he suggested a new way to use the UV technology -- to quickly turn computer designs into working prototypes -- Hull was given a little lab to play around in during his evenings and weekends.

Hull experimented for months, on his own with a plastic-y gloop -- then one night, something emerged...

Sony will start to think on the new PS5 very soon.

In a recent interview on MTV, Scott Rohde, the responsible of Sony Worlwide Studios, he said: "We usually start to think on the development of the next system curiously after a few years of the release of the actual system. As soon as a new console is released, you have to take a breath, there will be a couple of years dedicated to the new console for improve it. And very soon, we will think on what we are going to do after that. That´s Sony culture. We always have to do something bigger and better that what be did before", he said.

The PS4 was released on November of 2013, we have to wait a few years to see a PS5, but a lot of people already "created" their own PS5.

What's ahead for gaming in summer 2014

With 2013 firmly in the rearview mirror, the movers and shakers of the video gaming industry are focusing on where the next 12 months will take us.
With new platforms and consoles available and more people playing games on smartphones and tablets, the future appears to be open to a vast array of possibilities.

We asked four industry players what they think the next year will look like. Each offered a few specifics and a broader view about what will be important to game makers and players.

Many expect 2013's releases of new hardware and software platforms -- most notably, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles -- to spur creativity in game development and delivery.

Here's what they told us:
Console wars: PlayStation 4 vs. Xbox One

Ken Levine, creative director, Irrational Games

"2013 was the year of the left field: crowdfunding, the Steam box, in-house streaming. 2014 is the year we're going to start to see how that changes the space. The majority of old-school developers I know now have gone into more personal, niche titles; (it) reminds me of when many of the great PC studios (BioWare, Bungie, Bethesda) started developing console games in the early 2000s.

"Being in gaming is like being in music in the '60s, but there's a new British invasion like every three years. I think disruption is generally a good thing. It keeps us on our toes as developers and usually yields dividends for gamers."

Laser bombardment yields erergy milestone

The event was over a fraction of scintilla of a blink of an eye and released a burst of energy that's not particularly impressive by most standards.

But it's being hailed as a milestone in a decades-long quest to harness the power of nuclear fusion, the same process that powers the sun. For the first time, scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory of California say they produced more energy from a reaction in their fuel source than they put into the fuel, said Omar Hurrincane, the physicist who led the experiment.
